Bromance has existed for centuries - and murses too, apparently

Bromances have existed for centuries - and murses too, apparently

Now, you might think this subject to be a bit cheeky for me, perhaps a bit off-topic.

And it is. And isn’t.

Bromantism has always existed: Butch & Sundance, Sacco and Vanzetti, Simon and Garfunkel, Peter and Jesus, Kerouac and Cassady.  However, not until recently has it been so openly discussed, or even had its own term.

If you search the word ‘bromance’ in Google today,  202,000 results pop up. The word comes up in bars as a joke, out of friends’ mouths as a lament over ice cream, on an MTV promotion for a show by the same name.  It’s so funny that an affection that even Aristotle wrote about* wasn’t put into a single, all-encompassing word until the mid 90s (Dave Carnie coined the term in the skateboard mag Big Brother – thank you again Wikipedia) and yet still, the term didn’t gain traction until 2007’s Superbad. Since this mainstream Hollywood sensation, Bromance is not just a word to encompass an idea, it’s becoming a way of life. Just ask Katherine Bindley, or Time Magazine. I think it’s so interesting – no matter what bromance is particularly, whether it makes you laugh, gag or raise your fist in pride – It’s interesting that the term even exists.

To Bromance!

What’s On Your Mind?

The evolution of the digital age has brought on so many wonderful things. From portals and search engines and free AOL minutes on discs to 2.0 socialization: Myspace, Facebook, eHarmony, LinkedIn, SeekingArrangement. Social networks prompted us to put ourselves out there, fill in profiles to display, gather friends and continually answer this question:

But the digital world is moving beyond that, it seems. After evolving from a just a tool to use en masse, and then a way to interact with the world by showing a heightened or otherwise other you, we’ve moved this way:

And this way:

So what’s on your mind?

There have been some interesting trends in furniture lately:

Now you can draw your furniture out of thin air…

Or grow it for yourself…

Grow Your Own Crystal Chair

“Venus takes shape by making the tiny crystals grow in an aquarium,  and makes its appearance over time as if the goddess herself gradually emerges from water. The natural crystal chair, which is formed by the laws of nature and embodies a beauty born of coincidence, pushes the boundaries of creativity. The work is like my message for the future.”

Sometimes artists can sound very silly.
