I’m On My Way To Dallas! November 2, 2009

My work in social media is taking me taking me to Dallas today!

Whenever I fly somewhere, I find that I get just as excited about my experience at the airport as I get about the destination.

I remember when I was a freshman in college I used to go to the airport just to watch people coming and going.  I’d walk past the different gates and daydream about jumping on a flight to Paris or New York, and I used to love to try to guess which people were coming home, and which ones were coming to visit and what they were here for.  My favorites were the ones coming home, and their eyes when someone was there to greet them.

I’ve missed seeing that.

So today, when I got to the airport way too early, I decided that instead of hanging out at the gate I’d go have some fun

.

I watched the people waiting behind the barricade for their loved ones

Then it was time for my flight, and I almost immediately fell asleep

I’m still thinking of those people waiting for their loved ones at the airport

“Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world,
I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow airport.
General opinion makes out that we live in a world of hatred and greed
    I don’t see that.
Seems to me that love is everywhere.
Often it’s not particularly dignified or newsworthy but it’s always there.
Fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives,
    boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends.
When the planes hit the Twin Towers,
none of the phone calls from people on board were messages of hate or revenge,
hey were all messages of love.
lf you look for it, I’ve got a sneaky feeling you’ll find that love actually is all around.’

Exactly. The opening to Love, Actually was playing through my head nearly the whole time I was there. It made me feel so full, I thought I would burst

  2. I love love love airports. And years ago when I would travel for work all the time, I would get there early for the exact same reason. In just about 100 yards, you can see the entire range of human emotions. Though it’s a little bit different in recent years, airports are still some of my favorite places in the world…

I especially love the Atlanta airport because there are so many GOOD food options there. I’ll be hitting the airport next week, actually.

    Come back to Dallas!
